Wide range of services available at Aboriginal Justice Open Day to be held in Mt Barker next month

A visiting open day promoting access to legal services for Aboriginal people will come to Mt Barker next month.

The Aboriginal Justice Open Day, hosted by The Department of Justice, will be held at the Community Resource Centre on June 7.

The Open Day functions as a “one-stop shop” with a range of service providers on site to allow participants to complete tasks such as addressing outstanding fines, organising identification documents including for Medicare, health care cards and birth certificates, and making applications for WA Photo ID Cards, driver’s licences and learner’s permits.

Participants will also be able to speak directly with service providers including the Department of Transport, Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Sheriff of Western Australia, Services Australia, the Office of Criminal Injuries Compensation, and the Australian Electoral Commission.

Representatives from job service providers at Work Australia and Workforce Australia will also be in attendance.

A Department of Justice spokesperson said the open days, which are held in locations throughout WA, was one way the department aimed to improve outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

The Aboriginal Justice Open Day is also open to be accessed by non-Indigenous people.
