Whalers trio earn selection in country week all stars side

A disappointing senior country week cricket tournament for the Albany Cricket Association first XI has been buoyed by the inclusion of three players in the tournament’s All Stars team.

Whalers trio Zane and Coen Marwick and Nathan Crudeli, who all play for Railways, earned selection after stand-out performances across the tournament in Perth last month.

Zane Marwick scored two centuries in the final two matches and batted at No.3 throughout the tournament to finish with an average of 61.8.

Marwick also took six catches in the five matches and was named to open the batting for the All Stars.

Crudeli, who opened the Whalers bowling attack, relished batting further up the order and finished with an average of 78.3 runs to be the second top scorer of the tournament while also taking six wickets.

Making the All Stars for the second year in a row, Coen Marwick claimed 15 wickets at an average of 12.4 to go with 21.5 runs with the bat.

Whalers captain Ryan Kinnear said all three players deserved the recognition.

“Zane has put in a lot of hard work and his form carried on from the country championships over east,” he said.

“We gave Nathan extra responsibility in the top order, which he took with both hands. He also spearheaded our bowling attack.

“Coen is such a reliable line and length, and bowling into the breeze up there was tough, so to take those wickets was pretty impressive.”
