A large whale bone has become a new landmark on part of the Bibbulumun Track near Peaceful Bay.

Walker Spike Miller, who recently completed the arduous track, said he believed it was the top section of a jawbone.

“I went to the whaling museum and now feel sure it was part of the jaw bone,” he said.

“It was just over 2m long and on the rocks just south of Peaceful Bay.”

It is believed the bone may be from a whale carcass which washed up on the beach in March.
