Half of the 25,000 customers affected by the mass power outage that hit the Great Southern region on Thursday morning, have had their power restored.

The outage spans almost 300km along the south coast, with residents in an area from Walpole in the west, Bremer Bay in the east and Kendenup in the north all affected.

Power was lost to the large swathes of the region at 8.51am, with approximately 25,529 customers losing power.

About 13,505 customers across the region had their power restored at 9.51am.

More than 12,020 residents are still without power as of 10am.

The estimated restoration time for majority of remaining customers is 12.30pm.

The City of Albany took to its Facebook page to urge patience to residents affected by outage.

“We understand how disruptive this is for our community, local businesses, and essential services,” the post read.

“In the meantime, please take care on the roads, check in on neighbours who may need support, and follow any advice from emergency services.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding while crews work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

A Western Power spokesperson said they are investigating the cause of the outage and working to restore power as soon as possible.

More to come.
