Up-and-coming Albany motocross rider Corben Weinert leads both divisions in which he is competing at the halfway mark of the 2017 WAMX State Junior Championship after a strong set of results in the third round, held at Stockton Park in Collie at the weekend.

Weinert collected a second placing and two thirds in the 100cc-125cc 13-u15 class, where he finished third overall in the round, edged out of second position by just two points.

However, his performance helped the young star consolidate his lead in the championship, sitting in first place with 293 points, 32 points clear of his nearest rival, Conan Forrester.

In the 150cc/200cc-250cc 13-u16 division Weinert twice crossed the line in second place and was third in his other moto to bank another 94 points on his championship tally and walk away in second place at the Collie round.

Despite Regan Duffy’s dominance in the third round, Weinert sits atop the overall standings with 286 points and holds a commanding 59-point buffer on Joe Di Giulio.

Weinert has put his aside injury troubles of last year to return in terrific form and has his sights set on winning both State championships with rounds in Chidlow, Byford and Coastal remaining.
