Watch Me Dance wins Group three Champion Fillies Stakes and has her eyes on more Group glory in the WA Guineas

Brilliant Albany filly Watch Me Dance is firming to contest this week’s Group 2 $500,000 Sky Racing WA Guineas (1600m) after her narrow win in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes on Saturday at Ascot. The Steve Wolfe-trained Watch Me Dance remains in contention to run in the Group 1 Magic Millions Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 5, but that may come after a start in this Saturday’s WA Guineas. The boom three-year-old filly notched the biggest win of her career in the $200,000 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday. After being forgotten in the market and starting a $21 chance with TABtouch, Watch Me Dance bounced out of the gates and jockey Shaun McGruddy immediately slotted in behind the leaders. At the top of the straight a split presented for McGruddy and they shot through to level up with Indigo Blue and then won a two-horse fight down the straight, getting her nose down on the line to claim a thrilling short half-head victory. Watch Me Dance, owned by a group of 16 women, is in the final field for the WA Guineas and has drawn barrier one for McGruddy and will carry 54.5kg. “She’s a wonderful filly and hopefully we can get her to where we need to get her,” Wolfe said. “If she’s OK in the next couple of days she will go in the Guineas and then the Kingston Town but if we are not overly happy (tomorrow) she will go straight in the Kingston Town I would think. “It’s wonderful to mix it with the best up there and come away victorious, that’s what we play the game for. “We buy these middle-of-the-range horses and the great thing with her is she’s earned $600,000 for the owners and she’s probably worth $500,000 now. “It’s like winning lotto for those girls, only they are having a bit more fun than winning lotto.” The I’m All The Talk filly improved her career record to four wins from 10 starts. Wolfe said he was delighted to be congratulated by Adam Durrant, who trained the runner-up immediately after the race. “Adam Durrant come straight up after we beat him and shook my hand and said ‘well done’ and I think that’s what racing is all about,” he said. “We are reasonably successful but he’s top-level and he took the time out to come and shake my hand immediately after getting beaten in a $200,000 race.” Small local trainer Liam O’Loughlin also tasted success at Ascot, with Wild Fusion winning race one over 1400m impressively as the gelding resumed from a spell.
