WAFL wrap: Strong contested display from Williams-Jolley, Davis and Pearce dominate in defence for Claremont

North Albany junior Rhori Williams-Jolley has played a key role in Claremont winning back-to-back colts games, as they skipped clear of Perth in the second half at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday morning. The Tigers are one of five teams on 12 points after they finished comfortable 43-point winners over the Demons in round seven. Leading by only six points at half time, the home side found another gear in the second half as Williams-Jolley won a stack of contested possessions and had a hand in a couple of goals. Playing in the midfield and across half forward, Williams-Jolley was impressive in the win as he collected 17 disposals, three marks and two tackles to go with five inside 50s. He had one shot on goal late in the game which was just wide but the Tigers finished big winners, 13.6 (84) to 6.5 (41). Williams-Jolley did not play in the opening round of the season but has featured in the past six colts games for the Tigers. Ex-Royals forward Carson Flower was lively in the Tigers’ win with 10 touches, six tackles and a goal. The third Great Southern product who played for the Tigers was Royals’ Cooper Childs but he was relatively quiet with five possessions and two inside 50s. North Albany ball winner Alex Pearce and Borden key position player Anthony Davis were both dominant figures in the Tigers’ reserves thumping of the Demons later in the day. Pearce starred across half back with 27 disposals, 10 marks and four inside 50s as his side conceded only three goals in the 89-point demolition. Davis held down centre half back for the winners and was also influential with 23 touches, six marks and three tackles. North Albany junior Talon Delacey had plenty of impact in the midfield, to finish with 16 possessions and six inside 50s, while Railways’ Jacob Blight was a strong contributor at full back with 14 touches and four marks. Former Railways forward Coen Jackman booted an early major and gave the Tigers a real presence in attack but finished with 2.3 in front of goal from his nine disposals. The Tigers reserves sit on top of the ladder after winning their sixth game of the season. In the league fixture, Gnowangerup’s Timm House kicked three majors as the Tigers won by 34 points. Tigers captain Declan Mountford, who hails from North Albany, gathered 18 possessions and five inside 50s while House was a constant threat in attack to return 3.2 from his 13 touches and four marks. Ex-Railways midfielder Bailey Bennett played his first league game of the season and kicked a goal while Royals and Albany product Tyron Smallwood and Albany big man Kieran Gowdie also kicked goals in the victory. Ongerup-raised defender Angus Dewar was a strong contributor for Subiaco in their six-point loss to Peel Thunder in the league competition on Saturday at Leederville Oval. Dewar had 18 disposals, eight marks and five tackles but the reigning premiers fell to a fifth defeat of the season. At Steel Blue Oval on Saturday, former Royals forward Tom Edwards was terrific for Swan Districts as they downed West Coast by 20 points in the league game. Edwards kicked two goals to go with 12 touches, four marks, three tackles and three inside 50s and has now booted seven goals this season.
