WAFL colts: Strong response as Claremont come from behind to beat Subiaco in Albany

A dominant second half display guided Claremont to an impressive 24-point win over Subiaco in the regional WAFL colts fixture held in front of a healthy crowd at Retravision Stadium on Saturday night. The Tigers side, featuring four Great Southern players, kicked six goals to one after the main break as they recorded their eighth win of the season. Captain Ryley Disisto was outstanding with 24 touches and two goals, intercept defender and Mt Barker junior Seb Ballard took eight marks and midfielder Cody Angove gathered 24 disposals, five inside-50s and nine tackles to all have a strong say on the result. Kieran Douglas kicked the first goal of the game for the Lions before majors to Disisto and Hamish Davis put the Tigers up. A late major to Riley Mayfield left the Lions trailing by only two points at quarter-time and they took that momentum into the second. Dominating around the stoppages, the Lions kicked the only two majors of the second term to open up 10-point advantage. A Koopa Walsh set shot put the Lions back in front before a strong mark and conversion from skipper Luker Kentfield had his side on top going into half-time. The Tigers though turned the screws after the long break, regaining control around the middle through Disisto, Angove and Ashton Bryant (20 disposals and 10 tackles). Kody Kataskas and Disisto gave the Tigers early majors before a much-needed goal from Lion Joshua Reid steadied the ship. The Tigers would go into the final change ahead, however, Railways product Mohit Jaggi missing two chances on goal before teammate Bailey van der Struyf made no mistake in the 24th minute of the third term. Lions’ Riley Burton was reported for rough conduct after a front on hit on Royals junior Ryan Lazar, the pair getting blue cards under the WAFL protocols while Lazar underwent a concussion test. Majors from Jasper Pearce and then Harry Cole pushed the Tigers lead to 19 points and then Joe Matthews sealed the 8.12 (60) to 5.6 (36) result with the final goal of the game. The Tigers were best served by Angove and Disisto along with debutant Clancy Dennis in the ruck with 26 hit outs and 12 touches while Ballard finished with 14 disposals and was outstanding in defence. The victory pushed the Tigers one game and percentage clear of the Lions in second spot on the ladder. The Lions were best served by half-back Xavier Hickey (14 touches and six marks), tall defender Dylan Cordier, Douglas (16 possessions) and Kentfield up forward while Lachlan O’Keefe and Ethan Barbieri were their leading possession getters with 18 each. Mayfield was reported for rough conduct in the second term.
