Vandals cost church $2000

Callous vandals used rocks to smash several windows at Lockyer Uniting Church Congregation, leaving the church to foot a bill for $2000.

The church building on Townsend Street was vandalised last week, with seven windows broken by vandals hurling big rocks.

Lockyer Uniting Church president Joan Wright said she heard about the incident on Saturday afternoon as church members prepared for Sunday service.

“I feel disappointed that someone feels the need to do this thing,” she said.

“All the rocks that they threw are all decent size rocks, and to throw some of those rocks you have to be a teenager.

“It’s a significant damage to us because we’re a small church.”

Ms Wright have reported the incident to Albany police but said no police officer had attended the site.

Albany police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Grant Pollard said it appeared to be an act of random vandalism.

“We can find no connection to show that it’s a religion-focus vendetta act upon the church,” he said.

The Lockyer Uniting Church Congregation has been serving its local community for the past 50 years.

The church has more than 20 members and has been an integral part of the Lockyer community.
