Uppers duo Sherry and Schorer, ADCA captain Marwick named in WA Country Cricket Board’s team of country week

Upper Great Southern’s Ben Sherry and Jacob Schorer along with Albany and Districts skipper Coen Marwick have been recognised for their superb individual senior men’s country week campaigns in Perth last month. Earlier this month the WA Country Cricket Board named its 2026 team of the week from the senior men’s competition, selecting 12 of the best-performed players. Sherry and Schorer, who both played for the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association, were picked despite their side’s forfeiting the A-section, third-place play-off. Three Uppers players left after losing their semifinal to fight a bushfire near Wandering, with Schorer getting back in time to save his home despite finding his gutters ablaze. Marwick was skipper of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association which reached the A-grade final at the WACA but lost to a crack Busselton-Margaret River outfit. Wandering’s Sherry was picked for his batting after three good knocks. He opened the week with 85 off 120 balls against Peel but came unstuck, and was out for a duck, in Uppers’ second outing against Geraldton. His 42 in 74 balls came in their final group game against Eastern Goldfields while his last knock of the campaign came in their semi against Albany when he hit 63 off 122 balls in a losing cause. Sherry finished as A-section’s fourth highest runscorer, with 190 runs at an incredible average of 95. Wandering wicketkeeper Schorer finished with six dismissals behind the stumps for the week, including three catches and a run out on day two against Geraldton. Schorer’s six catches and one run out had him picked as the keeper in the team. He chipped in with the bat too, his best of 38 coming when opening against Albany and Districts as Uppers fell short of a win by only nine runs. All-rounder Marwick endured a tough time with the bat, hitting only 35 runs in five matches, but had much more fun with the ball, taking 12 wickets, including 4-35 against Uppers in the semifinal, at an average of 13.5 to be A-section’s second leading wicket taker. His economy rate hovered around 2.73 other than in the group game versus the eventual champions when it rose to six runs per over in a contest ADCA lost by 150 runs and all the bowlers were belted. Four Busselton-Margaret River players made the WACC team of the week with two from Esperance, the only other area with multiple representatives.
