A house was gutted by fire on a property near Denmark on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the Scotsdale Road property, north of the Denmark townsite, just before 4am.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames.

Thirty-one volunteer firefighters attended from Denmark Volunteer Fire and Rescue Rescue, Mt Barker VFRS, Scotsdale/Shadforth Bush Fire Brigade, Mt Lindesay BFB and Ocean Beach BFB.

The fire was contained by about 5am and extinguished by 6.15am.

The single-storey home was destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire was accidental, according to DFES.
