Under-18 girls final honours to Denmark surfing sensation Isi Campbell despite tricky Trigg conditions

Denmark surfing star Isi Campbell claimed a fine win in the second leg of the WA Junior Surfing Titles at Trigg Beach last month. The State titles are being held across three events and WA’s best young surfers hit the metropolitan waves on May 26-28 as they competed for spots at the national titles later this year. Despite the small and challenging conditions, Campbell called on her recent experience at big events to take out the final of the under-18 junior girls division. Campbell has enjoyed a busy start to 2023 competing in a number of World Surf League Qualifying Series and Pro Junior events on the east coast. She stamped her authority on the under-18 final with an innovative and progressive approach the key to her victory. “It was definitely a bit of a grovel out there so I rode my epoxy but I got a few fun ones,” Campbell said. “All the girls were ripping as per usual and it was fun to have a few heats and a final with them.” The teenage sensation had scores of 7.17 and 6.73 in the small surf, combining for a two-wave total of 13.9 out of 20 that secured her top honours in second event of the WA titles. Margaret River’s Willow Hardy (12.96) was second while Augusta’s Ruby Berry (10.43) and Margaret River’s Kaleisha Launders (5.23) were third and fourth in the final. The third and final event of the WA Junior Surfing Titles will be held in Geraldton on July 14-16.
