Unbeaten Tigers, Knights face off

Tigers and Knights will face off in an early season top-of-the-table clash to headline round 3 of the Albany Basketball Association men’s A-grade competition tonight.

With both sides undefeated after two fixtures, last year’s premiers Tigers come up against the in-form Knights.

Led by guard Matt Leary, who is averaging 13 points a game, Knights snatched a last-gasp victory against Denmark-Albany Spartans in the opening round before downing last year’s grand finalist Barking Owls 47-42 last Tuesday.

Tigers go into the match having registered wins against Ambassadors and Raiders under-18 development squad with last year’s finals MVP John Santia averaging 13.5 points a game.

Meanwhile, Kinjarling Thunder will look to record their first win of the season against Ambassadors.

Thunder coughed up a healthy half-time lead last week against Crabs as Cohen Taylor was forced to sink a free throw after the final buzzer to salvage a draw. Ambassadors go into the round in sixth position after a win against Pelicans last Tuesday.

Spartans will also be on the hunt for their first win when they take on Owls tonight.

After losing in heartbreaking fashion to Knights in the season-opener, Spartans will be fresh coming off a bye last Tuesday.

Owls sit in fifth spot having beaten Raiders first up before losing to Knights last week.

In the women’s A-grade, Panthers are searching for their third straight win against Flames. It has been a remark-able turnaround for last year’s bottom side Panthers as they remain the only undefeated side in the competition, with Ella Scamozzi and new recruit Nina Smith proving crucial in the first two games.

Magpies take on Raiders under-18 development squad in the other fixture, with both sides having tasted victory once so far in the new season.
