Unbeaten streak now 10 games after in-form GSSA men’s division two side Phoenix continue red-hot form

Phoenix pushed their unbeaten streak to 10 games in the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division two competition, easily defeating Bayswater on Saturday afternoon. Phoenix went into the break 2-0 and never faltered, adding two more goals in the second half to coast to a 4-0 triumph. Prolific goal scorer Corey Plug hit the scoresheet once again and was helped by Ethan Vanderschaaf who added another. Phoenix continue to firm as title favourites and they sit 11 points clear on top of the division two table with four league games left to play. In the other division two fixtures, Rovers upset Caledonians to win 2-0 while a late Jean-Pierre Telpus strike helped Polonia defeat Royals 3-2. Meanwhile in the women’s division one competition played on Friday night, Mt Barker remain undefeated after thumping Caledonians 15-2. Libby Morris fired home a mammoth six goals in the rout while Melanie Greeney (five goals), Helen MacDonald (two goals) and Abigail Marsh (two goals) also found the back of the net for Mt Barker. Stephanie Grant and Megan Orr were the goal scorers for Caledonians. Denmark A’s title bid took a hit, dropping points for the first time this season as they played out a scoreless draw with Rovers. Elsewhere, Denmark B put 12 goals past Bayswater as Olivia Dockendorff netted four goals and was well supported by Joanna Griffith (three goals) Aisha Douglas (two goals) and Imogen Lacy (two goals). An Elisabeth Bosch goal and a brace from Maggie-Jayne Smit helped Polonia get past Phoenix 3-0. In the women’s division two competition Mt Barker and Denmark C played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Mt Barker’s Emily Hughes and Siobhan Smith gave their side an early lead but goals to Jessica Kinder and Nicole Smyth saved the game for Denmark C. In the division one men’s fixtures, the clashes between Bayswater and Royals and Denmark versus Polonia were cancelled. Rovers beat Caledonians 4-1.
