There were two close games in round three of the Albany Netball Association B1 competition on Saturday. Narrikup 8 and Griffins 7 were separated by a single goal while a four-goal final margin made for exciting viewing in the clash between Kangas 6 and Magpies 5. There were multiple lead changes throughout the game as Kangas and Magpies battled for supremacy. Magpies started the game strong with some excellent defence and accurate shooting, ending the first quarter seven goals up. The Kangas line-up took a little while to find their feet but with some strong leads through the centre of the court and great intercepts in defence, they were back on track by half-time. The third quarter was back and forth between the teams, with both shooting ends performing strongly. Going into the final quarter scores were tied, however, controlled passes and steady game play proved to be what was needed for Kangas to be up by four goals at the final whistle. A great game for our younger netball participants, showing there is a bright future ahead for both clubs. The 38-34 result was Kangas’ first win of the season. The other round three match between Narrikup and Griffins went down to the wire with Griffins eventual victors, 35-34.
