TS Vancouver Navy Cadets call for more members

Albany’s TS Vancouver Navy Cadets are calling for more teenagers to join their ranks. The cadets participate in memorial services, go on camps, and learn about seamanship, sailing and knotting. “Naval cadets is a youth organisation, and it’s there to provide positivity and teamwork and just a positive experience for youth with a slant on the navy,” TS Vancouver training officer Sub Lieutenant Terri Cartmill said. Sub-Lt Cartmill said more cadets joining the group would create more opportunities for activities. “When you have only a few members it’s very hard to do things like safely get out on the water and different things like that,” she said. “You really do need the numbers to participate in certain activities.” The group is open for anyone from 13–18 years old, with 12-year-olds able to sign up if they are turning 13 in the year they join. The cadets hold parade nights every Friday during the school term from 5.30pm-9pm. Anyone interested in joining the group can attend a parade night, or call Lieutenant Graeme Palmer on 0467 559 381.
