A truck driver and his son narrowly escaped serious injury after the semi-trailer they were travelling in rolled on South Western Highway this morning.

The 14.5 tonne refrigerated truck overturned on the highway, about15km west of Walpole just before 6am.

The 41 year old male driver and his six year old son were unharmed.

Walpole Police sergeant David Wall said the truck was heading east before the driver was though to have lost control of the vehicle on the gravel edge before over-correcting and subsequently rolling.

Sgt Wall said the rear right hand corner of the truck hit a tree causing the truck to flip onto the drivers side.

He said the occupants were “very lucky” to miss the surrounding trees.

The highway was closed until 8.30am before the truck was removed from the sealed road.

The vehicle was then towed from the scene at about 10.30am.

Police are investigating.
