Toyota is officially the most popular make of car owned by Albany residents.

According to Australian Bureau of Statistics data released this week, on a count of registered motor vehicles by postcode, there are 4122 Toyotas owned in Albany.

The total number of vehicles owned in Albany is 22,240.

Holden holds second spot with 3344 cars owned, followed by Ford on 2280, with Hyundai, on 1807, and Nissan, on 1671, completing the top five makes of cars.

There are also four Ferraris and four Cadillacs owned in the area.

Toyota Albany owner and dealer principal Andrew Burton said he had had a suspicion the make would top the tally.

“Toyota has some great qualities — the main reason is the sheer breadth of model line-up that we have as there is always something for everyone,” he said.

“Those who drive Toyotas and crave Toyotas know that it is renowned for its exceptional quality and they have great resale value and a great reputation.”

Albany Toyota sells between 350 and 400 cars a year.

Mr Burton said the farming community made up about 30 per cent of the business’ market.

“The 70 series and 200 series are very popular in the farming community,” he said.,

“The Prado and the Hilux are also up there with the most popular models we sell.

“Probably 80 per cent of the cars that we sell are commercial and then we sell a sprinkling of passenger cars.”
