Top shelf talent: Albany’s Malcolm van Burgel crowned WA’s best and brightest with Ampol All Rounder Award

North Albany Senior High School student Malcolm van Burgel has been recognised for brilliance across the board taking out this year’s Ampol Best All Rounder Award for WA. Over 2000 Australian high schools participated in the 2023 award program and Malcolm’s willingness to give back to the community, academic achievement and sporting prowess has earned him Statewide honours. “Congratulations Malcolm on this well-deserved recognition, and may your example continue to inspire others in the North Albany Senior High School community,” NASHS principal Peter Hurle said. “Malcolm has been an exemplary student within our North Albany Senior High School community. “As a school that values being your best, respect, responsibility and kindness, Malcolm has embodied our expectations both in the school and in the community.” Malcolm led the NASHS Country Week team into competition as captain this year, took out the school’s ATAR Dux Award and still found time to mentor struggling youth and lead his church’s Bible study group. “He deserves the recognition he has received as he has adeptly navigated the delicate balance between academic excellence, competitive sport and community leadership, all the while remaining a really friendly and well-grounded human being,” Mr Hurle said. “Recognising students like Malcolm is essential not only to celebrate their achievements but also to inspire and motivate others in the school community. “It sets a standard of excellence and reinforces the values that underpin our school community.” Along with the accolade, Malcolm has received a cash and gift card prize totalling $3000 and a $2000 grant for NASHS. “As a proud Australian company, recognising the achievements of our emerging leaders has been a key aspect of Ampol’s commitment to community for almost four decades,” Ampol managing director and CEO Matt Halliday said. “Whether it’s endeavours in arts and culture, on the sporting field, in the classroom or within their own communities, we are delighted to celebrate our 2023 Ampol Best All Rounder Award State recipients. “Everyone at Ampol wishes to congratulate our State and national winners.”
