Top pair shine with trial wins

Star sprinter Potent Secret and returning galloper Mr Utopia both scored strong trial wins to start their new campaigns at Percy Spencer Racecourse last Friday.

Potent Secret, a winner of the Listed Summer Scorcher in 2016, ran the fastest 1000m trial of the day with talented jockey Mitchell Pateman leading the gelding to a time of 58.18 seconds, ahead of Miss Somebody, ridden by Lucas Camilleri, by five lengths.

Mr Utopia was seen for the first time since the 2016 Hannans Handicap where he ran 10th and won the opening trial smartly in 58.58 sec.

Kronstadt, ridden by Casey Hunter, beat black-type winner Dream Lifter narrowly in the second heat with a time of 58.91 sec.

Albany trainer Roy Rogers had four winners on the day including Tango Ora, ridden by Andrew Castle, Classic Jack and Highway Glory.

Other winners included the Rebecca Wallrodt-trained Scandalily, Khun Wesley, ridden by Jason Whiting and Calbanesco, ridden by Alan Kennedy.

Blizzard Express, trained by Albany’s Dixie Solly, claimed heat 10 in 36.74 sec while the Jonathon Jachmann trained Sondheim won heat four ahead of Recapitulate.
