Mt Barker Golf claimed the Lower Great Southern Bowling League’s first division title in a dramatic end to the ladies’ pennant season on Saturday. There was just half a point separating Mt Barker Golf and Emu Point Red heading into the final round of the competition. The two contenders played at different venues in round 14, not knowing how the other side was faring in their match. Mt Barker Golf secured three points in their win over Middleton Beach White to finish with 42 for the season. It was a second first-division title for Mt Barker Golf in the past three years. Emu Point Red finished on 38.5 points after they managed only one point in the final round, losing to Albany Gold. There was also a close finish in second division as Emu Point Purple snared three points in the final round to leapfrog Denmark Orange. Denmark Orange were on top of the table heading into the last round but failed to register a point in their loss to Emu Point Blue. Emu Point Purple won the title by just two points.
