Albany has three new State champions after 17 members of the Albany Mountain Bike Club competed in the WA State Gravity Enduro Mountain Bike Championships at Goat Farm in Greenmount, Perth last month.

Corben Weinert was Albany’s most outstanding competitor at the event, winning all seven stages to be crowned the new State champ after he finished first overall in the under-19 male category.

Weinert’s times were so impressive he would have placed third in the elite men’s field.

Sophie Adeline made it a winning double in the under-19 category, after she took out first place in the female division.

Youngster Hamish Wilkes finished almost four seconds faster overall than his closest competitor to take out the under-15 male category and also became State champ.

Hayden Kinnear was second across the line behind Weinert in the under-19 category to make it an Albany one-two on the podium.

In the master women’s division, Albany riders Dinah Roecker and Dora Adeline were third and sixth respectively.

Harper O’Donnell finished fifth the under-15 boys category while Luca Catterall finished in 13th place.

Nathan Symonds was also one of Albany’s better riders at the championship finishing sixth in the master men division, with Paul O’Donnell (26th), Jamie Scally (36th) and Kevin Forrest (37th) also competing in the same category.

Many of these riders will be travelling to the final WA Gravity Enduro Round at Evedon Park on October 7 which will decide the State series winners.

The final race is also a qualifying event for the Enduro World Series.
