Third win of the season propels Phoenix B up the standings as they push for a top-five finish

Phoenix B notched their third win of the Great Southern Soccer Association women’s division one season after defeating Rovers B on Friday night. After three straight losses to start the season, Phoenix B have turned their form around to record three wins and a draw from five games. The thrilling round eight victory was their second in a row, as they finished 2-1 winners under lights. Sonja Dobbe netted the first goal for Phoenix B before Rovers B hit back just after half-time to level the scores. However, Emily Bosch scored the winner for Phoenix B with less than two minutes left in the game to sink Rovers. Denmark A remain undefeated after finishing convincing winners in their contest with Polonia B at McLean Park. The dominant women’s side has won their first eight games this season and continued their winning run, beating Polonia B, 9-0. By half-time Denmark had five goals on the board. Jaya Morris netted a brace in the win while Denmark had six other individual goal scorers at the final whistle. Caledonians B won their fourth game of the season after a comprehensive 9-0 win over Royals B. After leading by five goals at half-time Caledonians B added four in the final 45 minutes to secure the win. Brittany Ward starred with a hat-trick and Megan Orr added a brace. Polonia A finished big 6-1 winners over Denmark B thanks to a hat-trick to Maggie Smith and teammate Holly Hoare scored twice. A dominant second half from Phoenix A guided them to an emphatic win over Mt Barker B. Phoenix A netted 10 goals in the second half on their way to a 13-0 win as Ebonee Van Burgel and Niomi Vanleeuwen finished with hat-tricks. In the women’s social competition Bayswater netted three second-half goals to prevail 4-2 over Denmark with Joanne Woods netting a brace. A hat-trick to Chloe Goodall powered Polonia to a 6-0 win over Great Southern Grammar Social while Sonics finished comfortable winners over Rovers, 8-0 thanks to two goals each from Telikah Collins and Tahnaya Puls. Polonia A continued their brilliant season in the men’s division one competition with a 14-0 win over Royals B in round eight on Saturday afternoon. Jason Wilson and Kyle Taylor scored four goals each as Polonia A won their sixth game of the season. Bayswater finished 6-1 winners over Port Albany, Rovers A won their sixth game of the season after downing Rovers B 3-0, Caledonians A won 5-1 over Phoenix B while Caledonians B prevailed 1-0 over Polonia B. In the men’s social-vets competition Cross Keys won 4-1 over Polonia Social, Rovers Social prevailed 3-1 against Great Southern Grammar Social, Old Boys finished 4-1 winners over Denmark Social, Baysie Masters dominated Australian Christian College 16-0, and Sonics won 2-0 over The Vets.
