Tennis talents from across the Great Southern flex muscles at Tennis West CBH Group Country Carnival

A host of avid Great Southern tennis players both young and seasoned garnered impressive results at the Tennis West CBH Group Country Carnival in Perth earlier this month. Of the talented tennis athletes was a strong contingent of Albany’s young tennis program OnCourt players who achieved stellar results at the Alexander Park Tennis Club from April 7-9. Dylan and Caris Stone, Adalyn Sharpe and Paige Michael are all players who represented OnCourt at the championship, while Ella North (Kendenup), Olivia and Alex Rigall and Claire King (all Tenterden) also played at the tournament. Caris Stone won the girls under-14 singles tournament after coming back from one set down to notch a superb 5-7 6-3 (10-2) victory. Dylan Stone finished runner-up in the boys under-14 doubles tournament alongside teammate Mitchell Dorant after suffering an agonising 8-2 loss, but made it through to the semifinal of the singles before going down to Qophello Faso in straight sets, 6-3 6-0. Sharpe and Olivia Rigall clinched the girls under-14 doubles tournament with a dominant aggregate victory over Great Southern counterparts Paige Michael and Caris Stone. The triumphant pair were also tied for third in the singles behind Caris Stone. Alex Rigall had a sensational tournament with victories in the open seniors women’s and mixed doubles with partners King and Phil Smyth. Rigall delivered an outstanding performance in the tournament, clinching victories in the open seniors women’s category with King as well as the mixed doubles, partnering with Phil Smyth.
