Police are searching for 18-year-old Mark Aaron Colbung after he escaped police custody in Albany last night.

Police say Colbung was arrested in Katanning yesterday after breaching his bail conditions.

He was taken to Albany Health Campus after complaining that he felt unwell.

About 8.30pm, he escaped police custody after exiting the rear of a police vehicle.

“The police officers looking after his welfare had taken him to the hospital,” Great Southern Superintendent Ian Clarke told GWN7 News.

“He was wearing a blanket because he was cold and as they were approaching the rear of the police vehicle, he’s been able to slip their hold.”

Colbung is described as about 175cm tall with a very slim build.

The Albany man was last seen wearing a black jumper and black pants.

“We’d ask that the family work with police and anyone that knows him and encourages him to come and hand himself back in so this matter can be resolved,” Supt Clarke said.

Colbung was due to face Katanning Magistrates Court today on a string of charges including aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, criminal damage and removing or interfering with monitoring equipment.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
