Teen escapee fronts Albany court 12 days after giving police the slip

Eleven days after allegedly escaped policy custody, officers arrested Mark Aaron Colbung in Orana on Sunday morning. Police said Mr Colbung, 18, was initially arrested in Katanning on Wednesday, June 24 for breaching bail conditions. After complaining that he felt unwell, he was taken to Albany Health Campus where he allegedly gave police the slip. WA Police issued a public call for information on Friday, June 26. On Sunday morning, the teenager was arrested on Lennard Street in what witnesses described as a noisy confrontation with police. The Advertiser understands Mr Colbung was pepper sprayed during the arrest. Last Wednesday, detectives swarmed on several streets in Orana during their search, including McKail Street, Minor Road and Lurline Street. Mr Colbung was eventually arrested just a couple of hundred metres from Wednesday’s search area on Lennard Street, which runs off McKail Street. Before he allegedly escaped custody, Mr Colbung was due to face court on a string of charges including aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, criminal damage and removing or interfering with monitoring equipment. Det. Sen. Const. Jason Garratt said Mr Colbung was taken into custody about 9.40am on Sunday. “The arrest was a result of our inquiries,” Det. Sen. Const. Garratt said. “We want to thank the community for their ongoing support in helping with this case.” Mr Colbung appeared at the Albany Magistrate’s Court yesterday and did not apply for bail. He is due to face Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court on July 15.
