Teen arrested after allegedly wielding baseball bat in threatening manner near primary school, service station

Police arrested an 18-year-old man who was allegedly wielding a baseball bat in a threatening manner near an Albany primary school and service station on Tuesday. The Spencer Park teenager was arrested on Drome Road on Tuesday morning after two alleged incidents, the first occurring near Yakamia Primary School. Police allege the offender was in the vicinity of the carpark at Yakamia Primary School about 8.15am when he had an altercation with another male in another vehicle. He then drove to McKail’s General Store, where he bought food. After returning to his car, he was involved in an altercation with two other males who were fuelling up their vehicle, Sen. Const Jeff Daniels said. Sen. Const. Daniels said the accused threatened the men with the baseball bat before driving away. He was stopped by police on Drome Road and taken into custody without incident. Police were seen carrying a baseball bat from the scene as evidence. The 18-year-old man has been charged with two counts of being armed in a way that may cause fear. He is due to face Albany Magistrate’s Court on June 10. “No one got hurt and there was no damage to property,” Sen. Const. Daniels said. “The offender is alleged to have produced the bat in a threatening manner. “We are seeking witnesses to the incident in Yakamia to call Albany police or Crime Stoppers.”
