Lower Great Southern Hockey Association came away with two strong results at the Hockey WA 2018 Y11/12 WA Club Championships, held at the Perth Hockey Stadium last week.

In the annual tournament played during the school holidays, the LGSHA had teams in both the girls’ and boys’ A-grade taking on rival regional and metropolitan clubs.

The LGSHA boys’ side did extremely well, narrowly missing out on a grand final berth after finishing the round robin stage in third place.

Hale topped the standings with 13 points and Geraldton had 11 points to shade LGSHA by a single point, with the top two progressing to the grand final. LGSHA had three wins, two losses and a draw in their round robin games and that set up a clash with Upper Great Southern for third and fourth.

Continuing their strong tournament, the boys won the third and fourth play-off 2-1.

“They did particularly well, the boys,” coach Damian Stevens said.

“It was our strongest showing in some years. We had some very good players in it from down here and were appreciative of players from Perth that helped us out.”
