Albany country singer Tammy London’s new single is the first from a new album she’s hoping will be out next year.
The song called Everything, released on August 21, is an upbeat, self-penned number which London reckons heralds those couples who have been through everything together and are still going strong.
As part of a couple just like that, London, husband Simon and the Waifs’ Vikki Thorn are getting set to perform as The Red Tails, headlining the NewFarm, New Country festival in Denmark, in November.
She met her husband 18 years ago, when he was playing a gig at Albany’s White Star Hotel (now Wilson Brewing Co.) and the couple have been hitting the high notes ever since.
The current release has been keeping her busy, particularly as she said she is searching for a new sound, something different.
Her last single, Mustang, was her debut solo effort and came out in June last year.
It was recorded remotely with Nashville producer Nash Chambers, whom she had contacted during COVID-19, sending him vocals and possible backing tracks for him to work on.
The result was Mustang, which broke her duck in terms of solo recording.
However, the coming together of Everything was much more satisfying because it was completed in the Bunbury studio of James Newhouse, a producer London hailed as a “one-man legend”.
“I wanted to create a sound I really love and when you find that person that gets what you are trying to sound like, it’s like hitting the jackpot,” she said.
“You go to him with your song and he creates it from start to finish in a day.
“He plays all the instruments and has just an amazing mind.
“It has been such a great process because in doing it remotely I felt detached from the creative process.”
The single pays homage to long-term relationships, which must feel close to home as the Londons have been together forever and have four children.
“So many songs are written about when you first fall in love, but I wanted to write something that explored being together for a long time,” she said.
“It’s about working through curve balls and feeling lucky you have someone who gets you.”
As well as the NewFarm, New Country gig she will also be teaming up with husband Simon to play at the Mountain Country Music Muster, which comes to Mt Trio, Amelup from October 30-November 1.
London is also looking to come up with a new sound before she gets her own band back together.
“I’m trying to figure out a bit of a sound, to look in a different direction,” she said.
“I have fantastic musicians in the band and when we get back together that’s what I hope we can come up with.”
