Tambellup farmer Nathan Willmott is a self-confessed AFL Fantasy addict and this year he joined elite company, finishing inside the top 20 from the 133,766 players around the country.

Playing the online game since he was in high school, Willmott’s previous best was about 500th, but in 2021 his team Sheep n Wheat went to a whole new level.

The 27-year-old finished 12th overall in the classic format, scoring 49,071 points across the 23 rounds of the AFL home and away season.

That score made him the fifth best player in WA and the top performing Fremantle Dockers fan in the competition.

His efforts earned him a sought-after Top 100 cap with #12 printed on it plus a Dockers jumper.

Willmott finished 359 points adrift of overall winner Ashlea Treasure, who won a brand new Toyota Hilux.

AFL Fantasy is game that thousands of fans play weekly, picking a team with a designated salary cap and limited weekly trades, with scores based on game day statistics.

“I would spend an hour or two during the week on it but over the weekend I’m constantly refreshing the scores,” Willmott said.

“I love the game because you can play against your mates and the rest of Australia and enjoy the banter along with it.

“It also keeps you invested in whatever game you’re watching whether it’s a blowout or just a shocking game.”
