Suspect in custody after 36-year-old suffers stab wounds in altercation at Albany mechanical business

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a stabbing incident at an Albany business on Tuesday, which left a 36-year-old man with wounds that required surgery. A man has been arrested and inquiries into the stabbing are ongoing, after the victim was conveyed to Albany Health Campus with non-life-threatening injuries. The attack happened on the premises of R O Mechanical Services on Lockyer Avenue at about 11.45am. Police said there was an altercation between two males at the industrial property, which is at the rear of Albany Pest Control. During the altercation, a weapon was used by the alleged offender to stab the victim who underwent surgery as a result of his injuries. Albany Detective Senior Sergeant Drew Reeder said a 39-year-old man was later arrested in Collingwood Heights but the suspect was not co-operating with police. No charges have been laid yet over the incident. “There is no ongoing threat to the community,” Sen. Sgt Reeder said. “We believe this was a confined dispute. “We are still ascertaining the motive behind the stabbing and investigations are continuing.” The incident happened alongside a muay thai gym, where parents were on Tuesday afternoon dropping their children off to classes just metres from where the stabbing occurred. Sen. Sgt Reeder urged people who may have witnessed the incident or were near the area in Centennial Park at the time to come forward to police.
