West Coast Eagles star Jeremy McGovern was a surprise spectator for the Great Southern Storm at the Landmark Country Football Championships in Perth last week.

McGovern, a product of the Storm program, who was drafted by the Eagles in 2011 and was last year recognised with his first All-Australian jumper.

The Eagles swingman has a close connection with current Storm coach Phil Gilbert and made the trip down to Mandurah’s Bendigo Bank Stadium on Friday during his afternoon off to watch the Storm compete in the colts division at this year’s championships.

After watching their final game of the day, McGovern went down into the rooms and accepted a invitation by Gilbert to speak to the Storm players about his journey which included playing in the same carnival only a few years ago.

The 25-year-old spoke to the players for a few minutes, jumped in a team photo with the Storm players and chatted to several of the support staff he knew from his time in the region.
