Surf’s up at Middleton Beach as Disabled Surfers Association celebrates new season

There was surf, smiles and just enough sun at Middleton Beach when about 90 people took to the water for the Disabled Surfers Association Great Southern’s first event of the year. About 60 volunteers and 30 surfers took to choppy conditions at Ellen Cove on Saturday for the group’s first Let’s Go Surfing session. People of all abilities and ages made the most of the session, with beach wheelchairs in use to help surfers reach the water and feel safe while catching the waves. Surfers from across the Great Southern took part, high-fiving and cheering as they took turns. Three more Let’s Go Surfing days will be held between now and April, with the next event scheduled for February 20.
