Successful night for trainer-driver Markham in Albany
Capel trainer-driver Ashleigh Markham enjoyed a successful night out at Harold Reid Paceway on Friday, scoring two victories as a driver and also notching two winners as a trainer on the six-race card.
Markham began the meeting in perfect fashion as he partnered red-hot $1.30 favourite Milliondollahanova to victory in the Nullakai Vet. Services Graduation Pace (2258m).
Prepared by Busselton trainer Michael Callegari, the three-year-old filly came three wide around the field in the opening lap and found the lead, where Markham dictated terms and then sped away on the home corner to score an effortless win by 9.8m over Tuatini.
Promising mare All About The Cash brought up her second straight win at the Albany Harness Racing Club later in the program, trained and driven by Markham in the Lion Nathan Fillies And Mares Pace (2258m).
The four-year-old started from the outside of the second row but was driven positively and found the front.
Starting a $2.70 chance on the tote, All About The Cash found plenty in the closing stages to defeat Dont Be Teasin Me by 6m and chalk up consecutive wins in Albany.
With two successful drives to his name, Markham then made it a training double in the Bakers Food And Fuel Pace (2683m) with Gotta Go Chocolate ($1.40).
With concession driver Deni Roberts in the cart, the six-year-old also went forward to lead and held off the fast-finishing pacer The Redeemer by a half-neck on the post.
Albany-based trainer Matthew Saw also notched a winning double on the night, with Madeleine Young guiding both Ebony Stride ($2.90) and October Brown ($1.40) to victory.
Saw has jumped to the top of the AHRC trainers’ premiership with 38 points, two in front of Nathan Turvey.
