Polonia A started their division one title quest in impressive fashion after a three-goal victory in round 12 of the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s season on Saturday. In the first week since the men’s top competition was split, Polonia A were 4-1 winners over Denmark B to remain in the hunt to finish on top. Points and goals from the first half of the season were transferred over to the respective division one and two standings. Polonia led 3-1 at half-time as Liam Murdock, Craig Jordan, Kyle Taylor, Luca Trichillo all netted goals for the winners. Denmark’s goal came via Nick Bahr-Pike. Four goals from Justin Bielecki helped Rovers A remain in second spot after a 5-1 win over Port Albany. Rovers led 2-1 at half-time before adding three goals in the final 45 minutes to seal the victory with Sam Jackson also finding the net in the win while Tyler Scamozzi scored for Port Albany. Caledonians A remain undefeated after prevailing 2-1 over Bayswater A in the division one competition. All goals were scored in the first half with Nathan Kay and Trent Eikelboom scoring in the win. Fred Opuni found the back of the net for Bayswater. Denmark A continued their impressive season in the women’s competition after finishing comfortable 4-0 winners over Phoenix B in the division one league. Two goals in each half and a brace from Abby Carter guided them to victory. Phoenix A remain in title calculations after they downed Polonia A 2-1 with Lee Decker and Jacy Mostert scoring in the win while Gabby White netted Polonia’s goal. Rovers B produced a strong second half to prevail 4-2 winners against Caledonians B, with Francessca May netting a brace for the triumphant team. Rovers B defeated Phoenix 3-1 in the men’s division two competition and Caledonians B defeated Royals by forfeit. Mt Barker and Denmark finished 4-2 winners over Royals and Polonia B respectively in the women’s division two competition. Rovers Vets won 3-1 over Rovers Social in the men’s vets/social competition, Bayswater Social dominated Baysie Social 9-2, and Old Boys downed Grammar Social 2-0. Australian Christian College and Cross Keys drew 3-3 and Polonia Social and Sonics also drew 3-3. In the women’s social competition Bayswater defeated Grammar 4-2, Polonia prevailed 3-0 over Rovers, and Denmark and Sonics drew 2-2.
