Strong fields for round three of WA State Downhill Series hosted by Albany Mountain Bike Club at Poikeclerup

Excitement is building for the third round of the WA Downhill State Series that will be hosted by Albany Mountain Bike Club at the Poikeclerup track near Kalgan this weekend. More than 50 entries have already been received for the event, which is also part of a broader WA series under the Australian Cycling banner. The AMBC is hopeful of having more riders compete than they did at last year’s race and there is a strong contingent from the host club and Denmark Mountain Bike Club expected to take part. Riders from Peel, Bunbury and Midland are among those from other areas set to hit the trail for the two-day event. Volunteers have been assisting in track maintenance and event organiser and AMBC president Dora Adeline said the high-quality trail was sure to attract riders from all over WA. “We’ve done a lot of work, there was just recently a maintenance day held down at Poikies with the community coming to get involved and help get it prepared for the race,” she said. “It’s exciting that with the work out at Poikeclerup and having the capacity to put together a really impressive trail, it attracts riders from across the State to come to Albany.” The track will be open for riders from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and practice will take place from 9am to 11am on Sunday before the official racing gets under way at 11.30am. Registration for the Downhill State Series closes on Friday, June 3. As part of the June long weekend festivities, the AMBC will also host a Pump Track Jam event at Albany Youth Challenge Park on Saturday evening. It will be a timed race on the pump track in various categories and the racing will start at 6pm.
