Denmark-Walpole star Shayne Zanetti is the only player in the Great Southern Football League that has polled votes in the Albany Advertiser Football of the Year Award in all five games so far.

North Albany young gun Talon Delacey has started the season in superb fashion, polling in four games, while Railways trio Mitch Green, Matt Palfrey and Jayden Scott have polled in three matches each.

Zanetti has played predominantly in the ruck for the Magpies for this season and has been a shining light, polling best-on-ground performances in round three and five while polling one vote in his other three matches.

He leads the award by two votes over Delacey and Green, who have both polled seven votes while Palfrey, Scott, Magpies’ Ryan Gaerth, Mt Barker’s Sam Lehmann and Royals’ Stephen Beal all sit on five votes at the halfway point.

There is only five rounds to go in the 2020 season and voting will go in-house after the completion of round seven.

Zanetti will be key to his Magpies’ chances of winning on the road this week, when they travel to Centennial Stadium on Sunday to face Albany in round six.

The Kangas and Tigers will face off in the other Sunday fixture at Tigerland, with a number of changes expected from the visitors given their big injury toll in last week’s narrow loss to the Lions.

Meanwhile, up at Sounness Park on Saturday, the Bulls will host the Lions as the home side tries to strengthen their finals aspirations.
