Spirited Kangas 9 outfit prevail in tight Albany Netball Association B2 grand final over Narrikup

Kangas 9 claimed an exciting B2 grand final victory over Narrikup 7 in the Albany Netball Association junior competition on Saturday. The ANA 2021 season came to an end on the weekend, with Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre playing host to excited players and families. Narrikup finished on top of the ladder by percentage over their grand final opponents, whom they also defeated in the second semifinal by 17 goals. But Kangas came to play when it mattered most and prevailed by five goals in a great contest. The first quarter proved to be grand final worthy with both teams starting strong in the first 15 minutes. Kangas got stuck in the goals against Narrikup defenders Ruby Young and Madison Steele who were working hard to take possession of the ball with some great rebounds and intercepts. The two sides were locked together on eight goals at quarter time. Narrikup made some changes on court in the second quarter which proved costly as Kangas outscored them nine goals to four. Imogen Deal and captain Morgan Apostles shot well this quarter for Kangas who went into half-time up by five goals. Narrikup found their feet again in the third stanza and they reduced the margin to two goals at one stage, as their supporters found their voice. However sides scored seven for quarter, leaving Kangas in front 24-19 going into the last quarter. The last quarter was an exciting affair with Narrikup vice-captain Saska Ellis in centre working incredibly hard down the court to turn the ball over in a bid to get her side back in front. There was little separating the two sides again, each scoring nine goals, with Kangas crowned premiers of the B2 division, 33-28. Narrikup 6 claimed the B1 premiership with a 33-26 win over Kangas 8. In the B3 competition Narrikup 9 capped an unbeaten season with a convincing 33-13 victory over Magpies 5. Narrikup 10 won 38-23 over Bethel 7 to be crowned B4 premiers while Kangas 11 proved far too strong for Narrikup 11 in the B5 decider, winning 32-11. Royals Saints 8 finished a superb season with a 26-18 win over Magpies 6 while Royals Saints 9 prevailed 22-14 in the D2 grand final over Griffins.
