Despite a series of thunderstorms hitting Albany at the weekend, the April rainfall is still far below the month’s long-term average.

The weather put on a spectacular light show on Saturday night, with Brad Smith of Asplin Images, capturing this stunning shot at Middleton Beach.

Thunderstorms on Saturday brought heavy localised showers to the region before a cold front brought a heavy downpour at midday on Sunday.

In the 24 hours to 9am yesterday Albany airport recorded 6mm, while it recorded 3mm in the 24 hours to Sunday 9am.

It brought the April rainfall total to 19.4mm, still well short of the long-term monthly average of 61.3mm.

Saturday hit 27.5C, more than five degrees warmer than the April mean maximum temperature.

Narrogin recorded 27.2mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am yesterday, while Qualeup, near Kojonup, recorded 13mm.
