Southern Districts Junior Football Association season kicks off with close matches in round one
The Southern Districts Junior Football Association season 2021 kicked off under lights in Albany on Friday night with the under-12s competition.
Even contests were the order of the evening, with no greater margin than 10 points in two games, while there was a draw in the third fixture.
The Eagles were able to defeat Lions 4.3 (27) to 2.5 (17), while Power finished 2.2 (14) to 0.4 (4) winners over Swans.
Meanwhile, Bulldogs and Saints couldn’t be separated with the score 2.3 (15) apiece at the final whistle.
On Saturday morning the remaining 500-plus members went to the Centennial Sporting Precinct for the Auskick Pre Primary/Year 1, Year 2 and Juniors Year 3-4, along with under-14s competitions, all playing in Albany.
The Eagles went down to Lions by 27 points in the under-14s, Swans lost by 20 points to Power and the Roos survived a late fightback to take an eight-point victory over the Crows.
Denmark-Walpole hosted Mt Barker teams for the first round at the high school oval with Mt Barker winning in both the under-12s and under-14s.
Last weekend, the under-12s and under-14s played a round robin ahead of the proper season starting.
Meanwhile the inaugural game for the SDJFA Youth Girls program was played on May 1, with 22 girls between Year 7-10 taking part.
