IN PICTURES: Southern Aboriginal Corporation hosts its Dandjoo Koort Homelessness event at Retravision Stadium

Those experiencing, or at-risk of homelessness, were greeted with a “one-stop shop” of help at Retravision Stadium on Wednesday, as the Southern Aboriginal Corporation hosted its Dandjoo Koort Homelessness Event. Held as part of Homelessness Week, the event had more than 20 local support services provide practical help for vulnerable Great Southerners in the form of housing sign-ups, education, vaccinations and counselling. Anglicare WA Great Southern service manager Jo Fictoor was one such stallholder and said the event was “extremely positive”. “The feedback was great and the location was good — really safe and discreet, which is important as there comes a lot of shame around being homeless,” she said. “The variety of services that supported the event was great to see and the fact that people experiencing homelessness were able to access them there straight away, it was a one stop shop to have their needs met there and then. “The coordination between services, as people may need support between multiple agencies, was just great to see. “It was well attended, with interactive and informative stalls and people were really able to learn a bit more about what homelessness looks like.”
