Police have confirmed an Albany resident has died after single vehicle crash this morning.

The 63-year-old male ran his vehicle off the highway, near Marbelup Road and Rutherwood Road, into the bush at about 7.30am.

Acting Sergeant David Johnston said a kangaroo was involved in the accident but a definitive cause is yet to be established.

Sgt Johnston said a report will be prepared for the coroner.

South Coast Highway remains closed but Main Roads are set to open the road later today.

Detours are in place via Marbelup Road, Lower Denmark Road and Rutherford Road.
