Sonics back in form as they defeat a persistent Denmark B in GSSA women’s division one competition
Sonics have returned to form in the Great Southern Soccer Association women’s division-one competition, defeating Denmark B 5-2 in round three on Friday night.
After a shaky start to the year following a 9-3 loss to Bayswater in round one and then a defeat at the hands of Polonia B in the second round, they hit back with a triumphant performance.
Denmark A are yet to lose a game this year, defeating Caledonians 7-0 in week one, easing past Rovers 4-2 in the second round, and now getting on top of Polonia B 5-2 on Friday night.
They are set to face a winless Denmark B side next week in their hopes of achieving a perfect four from four. In division two, Royals easily defeated the Polonia B side in a wet, chilly contest, finishing 6-1 winners.
Rovers also got their first win of the year, against Denmark D, in the other division-two fixture, breezing past their rivals as three goals to Emily Lawrence put the side 3-0 up going into half-time.
A second-half goal to Denmark’s Maya Gibson breathed life into the match, but Rovers’ Arna Franklin put another one past the keeper to assure they got on the winners’ list for the first time, prevailing 4-1.
