Thrilling cup finals to decide Great Southern Soccer Association men’s and women’s champions
In their first season, Sonics claimed title success in the Great Southern Soccer Association, scoring an emphatic cup victory on Friday night.
Sonics joined the GSSA this season and have finished as women’s division-three cup champions, downing Bayswater in the final.
Casey Griffiths guided Sonics to victory with four goals.
Sonics had five goals on the board by half-time and added three more in the final 45 minutes to secure the 8-1 cup win.
Tahnaya Puls netted a brace, and Shianne Arthur and Jessica Puls also scored for Sonics.
Dorenza Woods scored Bayswater’s only goal, in the first half, but they were unable to back up their league success.
Denmark claimed the league-cup double this season after proving too strong for Mt Barker in the women’s division two cup final on Friday.
A 4-0 win in the decider handed Denmark more silverware as Abi Matthews, Maya Launay, Bonnie Shephard and Ester Taylor all found the back of the net.
Polonia won a thrilling men’s division two cup final over Caledonians, prevailing in extra time on Saturday night.
After trailing by a goal at half-time, Caledonians found an equaliser in the second half and scores were level at 2-2 at the end of regular time.
In a tense extra time period, Polonia scored the winner to clinch the cup.
Escher Nash scored a brace and Paul Nash also found the back of the net for the winners.
Eh Gay and Basit Yousufi gave Caledonians a sniff but they couldn’t find a winner in extra time.
The Old Boys secured yet another cup title in the men’s social/vets competition on Saturday, prevailing 1-0 over Rovers Vets.
Richard Miller scored in the opening 45 minutes and Rovers Vets couldn’t peg it back.
