Albany will be captivated by a massive week of soccer this week as the Great Southern Regional Festival of Football hits town for the first time since 2020.

The festival runs from May 22-28 and will be headlined by a Regional Cup double-header at Retravision Stadium on Saturday.

Hyundai NTC will face Perth RedStar in round nine of the National Premier League WA women’s competition at 2pm, followed by Perth Glory against Sorrento in round 10 of the NPLWA men’s competition at 4pm.

A Great Southern Soccer Association match will precede both those games with kick off set down for 11.30am.

The festival commenced on Monday with a game changer club development workshop held at Albany Soccer Pavilion, running from 6-7.30pm.

On Tuesday the first day of school clinics will be held from 9am to 3pm, including a visit to Mt Barker Community College followed by a coach education MiniRoos course at the soccer pavilion.

On Wednesday the first part of a level-four referee course will be held at the pavilion from 6-9pm followed by a coach education skilled training course from 6.30-8pm, and part two of the referee course will take place on Thursday.

The four NPL clubs will host a free open training session at Retravision Stadium on Friday with NTC and Glory preparing for their respective matches between 5-6pm, while Sorrento and RedStar will train between 6-7pm.

The Albany Junior Soccer Association will host a visit from Football West and Perth Glory representatives before kick off on Saturday morning.

To round out the week, Football West referees will coach and assess the region’s local match officials from 10.30am-12.30pm on Sunday.
