Slim pickings for region

Tayler NealeAlbany Advertiser

The Great Southern region failed to make a grand final at the Basketball WA Country Championships tournament last weekend in Perth.

After the Albany men’s and women’s championship division teams were knocked out in the round-robin stages, the lower divisions followed suit, with four teams falling just short to miss out on a grand final appearance.

Albany’s division 4 men’s team was third after recording two wins, two losses and a draw.

The men’s veterans had two teams from Albany, with the first team placing second in its pool, while the second team was third.

Albany was represented in the women’s division 2 and the team was fourth within its pool after registering one win from four games.

Denmark also had a team in the same division and finished third in the other pool.

In the women’s division 3, Denmark recorded three wins and two losses to finish second in pool 2, while Albany went winless. Denmark’s men’s division 3 team placed third with three wins and two losses, narrowly missing out on a grand final appearance to Harvey.

Mt Barker’s only team in the championship ended up fifth in the men’s division 5 after notching two wins and four losses. Denmark was fourth with three wins.

In the women’s championship division, Zandalee Arthur was the team’s stand-out performer.
