Six-goal second half guides Phoenix to convincing victory over Royals in GSSA men’s division two competition

Phoenix delivered a dominant second-half display in their 8-1 thrashing of Royals in the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division two competition on Saturday afternoon. Royals fought courageously, battling through treacherous conditions to trail by a single goal at the end of the first 45 minutes, but faltered late against a much younger Phoenix outfit. The younger and fitter side ran out the game with ease, stacking on the goals in the second period to emerge seven-goal victors in a superb round-three performance. Corey Plug was outstanding, putting away four classy finishes to set Phoenix on their way to a second victory for the year. In the other division-two fixture between Polonia and Caledonians, the goals were shared evenly between Caledonians’ Jason Bosch, Clinton Ridley and Harrison Smith in their commanding 3-1 victory. Bayswater scored their first win of the season, netting three first-half goals to surge to a convincing half-time advantage against Rovers B. A sturdy and determined Bayswater defended well for the rest of the game, cruising to a 3-0 triumph. In the men’s division-one competition, Bayswater responded to their 7-0 defeat last week with grit and determination, getting on top of Royals with a spirited 2-1 win. Josh D’Aprile and Josh Petty were the saviours for Bayswater, scoring a goal each to give their side a much-needed victory. Rovers remain undefeated across their first three games after prevailing in an entertaining contest against Caledonians, 6-3. The experienced Justin Bielecki dominated the match, chalking up a hat-trick to bring his goal tally to six across the first three rounds. Polonia continued their hot form with a 3-1 win against a Denmark side still searching for its opening win of the season. The scores were level at the end of the first half but an impressive Liam Murdock brace and a Titan Puls sealer put the game to bed despite a Denmark consolation goal courtesy of Sam Jackson.
