Single dad juggles duties

Albany Advertiser

David Arthur spends six days a week coaching and refereeing while managing eight children by himself to be this week’s Unsung Hero.

WHAT IS YOUR POSITION?

Coach six basketball teams, including three women’s A-grade teams, referee three nights a week, run my own business and look after my eight children.

WHY DO YOU DO IT?

Probably because all my kids play. Just to teach the kids to make sure they are getting taught properly. I love doing it, I love teaching all the other kids too, a couple of my teams don’t have any of my own kids.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Watching them grow and seeing them achieve and develop — all the way through to Year 12 and playing in A-grade grand finals now.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM YOUR ROLE?

Probably my first grand final with my first Raiders squad. We were 18 points down and ended up winning in overtime. That was pretty special. I had built the team, so it was awesome.
