Sonics 2 recorded their second victory of the 2021 Albany Netball Association A5 season after prevailing over Bethel 3 in round four last Saturday.

Bethel 3 started the game strong, leading at quarter-time to hold a three-goal advantage.

With Sonics being a reasonably tall team, particularly in defence, it meant that Bethel had to work hard and make short sharp passes in front of their players, which they did well.

This didn’t last long for Bethel as in the second quarter Sonics took the lead with Lakoda Winmar working hard in the goals alongside Helen Winkelaar helping Sonics score 12 goals to eight to take a one-goal lead into half-time.

The third stanza proved to be a very exciting quarter with each team holding their own as they went goal for goal.

Bethel’s wing defence made some excellent intercepts down the court, which aided her team in winning the term, 10-9, as their forwards worked hard to move the ball within the circle, the score locked at 26-all going into the final quarter.

Some rushed play in the last quarter proved to be costly for Bethel and it was Sonics wing defence Kelsie Armstrong’s time to shine with some excellent defensive pressure down the court.

Sonics ran out three-goal winners in the end, 38-35, in a well-fought and even affair.

It was an exciting round overall for A5 with Railways 4 and Griffins 5 drawing 31-all and Kangas 5, who are on top of the ladder, defeating Griffins 4, 54-36.
