A body has been found in the search for a missing man on WA’s south coast.

Police said a body, believed to be that of a 66-year-old man missing since Thursday morning, was located at a beach near Jimmy Newells Harbour, south of Albany and east of The Gap.

The missing man’s family have been advised of the development.

The road to The Gap has been reopened, however access to Jimmy Newells Harbour has been temporarily closed.

Police and emergency services began searching for the man, whose vehicle was found at the tourist hotspot in the Torndirrup National Park, on Thursday morning after his family raised concerns about his welfare.

The search was suspended briefly due to rough weather conditions on Thursday afternoon with a 4.5m swell and strong winds hampering efforts.

Police were assisted by SES, a sea rescue marine vessel and air-crafts.

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, phone Lifeline on 13 11 14.
